Pål and Paul in Take On Me style
Drawing by Helen Dearnley aka Blackbird
Helen had asked Pål H. Christiansen in the beginning of this year if he'd agree to have a portrait drawn of him and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy. "I thought it would suit Pål's interest with a-ha, and his book "The Scoundrel Days of Hobo Highbrow" for him to be brought to life as someone who has been drawn into the Take On Me world of a-ha!" she says.
Helen has been a huge fan of a-ha since "Take On Me" was released in 1986, then aged ten, she decided to become an artist. Later, after becoming a single mother, she returned to University as a mature student, and was taught digital animation as part of the illustration half of her degree. This led to the development and eventual creation of her Degree Show installation based on a-ha's "Take On Me" comic imagery, entitled "The Unreal God And Aspects Of His Non-Existent Universe", part of the University of Lincoln Fine Art Degree Show "This Is It 08". Helen also collaborated with Magne Furuholmen for his "Scrabble" exhibition in 2007.
